Hearts were gladdened to be going forward into a new year when graced with a gala night at the launch of Gasworks Arts Park 2024 season.
It was aglow with excitement as glimpses were grabbed of the glamour, gaiety, glitz and gusto at this truly great indoor and outdoor venue. It’s a gift to Melbourne’s arts community. A golden gateway into local and globally acclaimed artists with opportunities galore for emerging artists.
International prizewinners Affinity Quartet gave a galvanising live taste of their upcoming August concert.
All encompassing, Gasworks Arts Park fosters visual and performing arts, special events and exhibitions. Summer in the Glade is a free monthly event offering an art and craft market, food trucks, drinks and live music.
Studios of 15 artists in residence welcome visitors on the third Saturday in the month, encircled by the thriving Gasworks Farmers Market.
In February, the Barcelona-based Flamencodanza duo will entertain with their contemporary dance/guitar show.
In Queenie van de Zandt ‘s ground-breaking smartphone driven, female-focused cabaret with a twist, petrons will enjoy Aretha, Joni, Streisand, Ella and Eva Cassidy. Wankernomics returns when they undress bureaucracy in the raw. Melbourne Writers’ Theatre’s feisty revolutionary Jennie throws us onto 1920’s Port Melbourne streets.
Queer Playwriting Award Showcase will present first-staged readings of top four finalists. IlbijerriTheatre Company promises non-stop laughs with Goodbye Aunty Flo.
The Sciencewits, Captain Chaos and Science Sam, appear again during April holidays with another ‘explosive’ interactive show. Kids can also interact with Polyglot’s giant Ants. For circus arts see Circus Trick Tease, Go/No Go, Red Canvas and Highwire Entertainment.
