SHOWBIZ: COVID Baby
Saturday, September 3, 2022
The Australasian Chinese Theatre and WHAM present the cross-cultural play Covid Baby from September 15-18 at the ACT studio, 11 Cole St, Brighton.
Written and produced by Moni Lai Storz, directed by Wolf Heidecker with original music by Felipe (Phil) Trainer, Covid Baby is a one act play about John Williams and Ding Mei Ling navigating their way in and out of lockdowns, and also finding themselves confronting a big decision: to have or not to have a baby.
How John used the Aussie or western way and Mei Ling used the ancient Chinese way, highlights the cross cultural differences between them. How they made the final decision is the central plot of this play.
Playwright Moni Lai Storz says Covid Baby is the third part of her trilogy which started as Our Man in Beijing in 2012, then Mei Ling in Melbourne was performed in 2019.
Storz believes this trilogy of cross-cultural plays is probably the first of its kind in Australia which specifically highlights Anglo Australian and Chinese values.
