SHOWBIZ: Jewel By The Sea
Saturday, September 3, 2022
The Jewel by the Sea returns for a fifth season at historic Black Rock House from September 1-17.
Written by Cheryl Threadgold and directed by Debbie Keyt, The Jewel by the Sea is a 90- minute creative portrayal, telling of the planning, building and life at Black Rock House, seaside holiday residence of Victoria’s first Auditor-General Charles Hotson Ebden, between 1854-1861.
Sam Johnson and Matthew Hunter have commendably stepped in at the 11th hour to perform roles, following cast illness.
Sam will portray stonemason Patrick Barrow and market gardener Henry Tilby while Matthew, who was already portraying astronomer/explorer William Wills, is now also performing the role of poet Adam Lindsay Gordon.
Coincidentally, both actors are former students from Parkdale Secondary College.
These days, Sam works in child care and Matthew is studying and running his own online business.
This season of the Jewel by the Sea is being presented in cabaret style, seated around antique tables. BYO refreshments.
Performance season: September 1-17
Venue: Black Rock House, 30- 36 Ebden Ave, Black Rock
